J5 - RIP After Jurassic 5 founding member Soup told an Australian newspaper last month that the group was calling it quits, rumors have been swirling as to the fate of everyone's favorite old school throwback rap collective. Now, it is confirmed: The Jurassic 5 period is over. A spokesman for the group, who chose to remain anonymous, confirmed to CMJ today that they've officially broken up after completing their last performances together in Australia and Japan, noting that each of the six founding members (including Cut Chemist, who cut out after 2002's Power In Numbers) would go on to pursue solo careers. "I don't want to sit here and fake around with it—we're not seeing eye to eye right now. People see us as a harmonizing, loving group, but that's far from the truth," J5-er Soup told Australia's Gold Coast Bulletin in February. "When it comes down to it, some people here want their own shine, their own thing. If that's what you want, I say 'More power to you.'" The group rep noted that there is always a chance the collective may reconvene at some point on future collaborations, since they've developed such strong relationships over their 15 years together. This September, Damian and Stephen Marley, Raphael Sadiq and others will reportedly show up on Chali 2Na's solo record, Fish Out Of Water, for which he is currently seeking out a label. Pioneering Los Angeles '90s and '00s underground Hip Hop collective Jurassic 5 will be re-releasing their self-titled 1997 EP on November 11th. The original album spawned the hits "Jayou," "Concrete Schoolyard" and the Steinski & Double Dee series tribute record "Lesson 6 (Reprise)." The success of the EP, which has been contractually out of print since 2004, led to the group signing with Interscope Records, where they released three full-length albums. Seventeen rare and unreleased tracks will be included on the new version. Included are bonus beats from DJ Nu-Mark, the rare "Lesson 4," and various radio appearances and live performance sequences. Also included is a DVD, which includes a full performance, and a 30-minute documentary about the earliest days of the group, formed in the early '90s. This 2CD + DVD set will release on Decon, home to Aceyalone and 88-Keys [click to read]. The work is billed as a "farewell to Jurassic 5," a group that disbanded over two years ago. Cut Chemist, DJ Nu-Mark and Chali 2na have all subsequently released solo material. |

Jurassic 5 founding member Chali 2na has announced the release of Fish Outta Water, his first solo outing since founding the revered Hip-Hop group in 1993. The new release is an introspective look into Chali 2na’s life and contains various social and political messages. Fish Outta Water boasts an all-star lineup and includes guest appearances by Talib Kweli, Damian and Stephen Marley, Elzhi, Beenie Man, Anthony Hamilton, while production chores are handled by Scott Storch, Cut Chemist and Jake One. In addition to the new album, Chali 2na will hit the road on the Rock The Bells tour this summer, where he will perform tracks from Fish Outta Water. Помимо засвеченного трека с Талибом хочу выделить еще Comin' Thru на цепляющий продуксьон от Нью-Марка, When Will I See You Again с Эльзай и Controlled Coincidence как наиболее запомнившиеся. Вообще же альбом очень ровный, без единого трека "на скип", во всяком случае после двух первых прослушиваний таких позывов не возникло ни при одном треке :horosho: |

К сожалению, Тунец очень сильно разачаровал меня со своим первым солником (Если не считать официального микстейпа). По-настоящему понравилась пара треков, остальные звучат настолько скучно, что всю картину не исправляет даже шикарный голос главного героя данного поста. Конкретнее - понравились треки с 11 по 13. Интересно так вышло, что зацепившие меня дорожки идут подряд. Досадно вообще, что альбом вышел столь тусклым. Я возлагал больше надежды на эту работу. |
