Нет, этого не было, спасибо FF.
Блять вот я опять в не новостном формате, но погружаюсь. Cypress Hill and Psycho Realm have always been closely associated. Was this album with Jacken a long time coming?
No, not at all. That was B-Real’s group. They were like the little homies. I watched them over the years. I thought Jack was cool. I didn’t really love Jack’s style back in the days. I think Jack improved so much, dude. From watching Jack over the years and how much better he got and the movement he built…He was a beatmaker and rhyming was secondary to him. When his brother got shot, he realized he had to take over. He’s the best lyricist in L.A. to me right now. He was an award-winning writer in high school. I never really planned on doing a record with Jacken. The last two years, my engineer was like, ‘You need to work with Jacken. You need to work with Jacken.’ I listened to his music and I realized I did. It happened organically. I don’t like to force things on my end. I’m free. We got together and it was right. Now if we had a million dollars in marketing and promotions, we would have a double-platinum fucking record. How would a new Cypress Hill album sound today?
I don’t know. I’m not really rolling with Cypress like that no more. I’m not touring with the group no more. I might do songs on the album. I don’t know. It doesn’t inspire me no more. Those are my boys. I love them. I can’t stop them from doing the group. They can continue waving the flag and I’m sure they’re going to make a great album, but it just doesn’t inspire me no more. I reinvented the wheel four times with Cypress Hill. I have to keep it moving. I could make so much money with Cypress each year, but it’s not fun. It’s not a challenge no more. I don’t want to walk up the same fucking hill. Will Cypress Hill be the same without DJ Muggs’ production?
I don’t know. I don’t know. I guess time will tell, right? I guess after the album comes out and when people hear it and the fellas make the records, we’ll see what it is. It’s not going to be the same. It’s different. You’re taking one of the components out of something. You’re taking one of the original components out. I really don’t know how it will be. That’s really not my concern. I hope everything works out great and everybody is happy and they break ground and make the best record of their career. I’m just not there anymore on my end. It’s not a wrong or a right thing. It’s just what it is. How’s your new Soul Assassins album coming?
I got a bunch of songs done for it. I’m just waiting for the right time to put it out. I want to put the Planet Asia record out first. That will probably come out in April. I probably have about 20 songs. I just don’t want to put a record out or put out a compilation. I’m doing a lot of things right now to get the record set up so that when it comes out, it does what I want it to do and it is what I want it to be. It’s banging already. How’s the Planet Asia album coming? Great. It’s fucking banging. I think Asia’s one of the best MCs in the West Coast. The problem with Asia is that he’s going in 20 different directions at one time. He picks all beats. He’s just a fan. He’s like me. I like Jay-Z. I like 50 Cent. I like Slug from Atmosphere. I like Murs. I like Lil’ Jon. I like it but it doesn’t mean I want to make it. The different music provokes different moods. I think Asia with one producer and one focus…He’s worked with other people before, but those people aren’t me. I know that if I can get him to focus his energy in one direction, it will be great.
It’s going to be a good collaboration. I’m going to make sure that it’s right before it’s done. We got about eight songs done. I got about four that are incredible. But we haven’t worked in, like, six months. Asia went on tour when his record came out. When we both finish our projects, we’ll go back in the studio. Were you involved at all with Alchemist’s new album Chemical Warfare?
I wasn’t involved in that at all. I was on the phone with him for three hours today talking about the Illuminati Bloodline. Go to YouTube and check it out. It’s incredible. Will you and GZA ever do another album together?
I don’t know. We’ll see what happens. GZA’s dope, but GZA works slow. He does what he wants to do when he does it. I would love to work with GZA again. I would say that we had a good time and we made a fucking great record. I have this record with Asia and there are a few other people I talked about doing albums with. We’ll see what happens. I’m not into doing what I did already. If it happens it happens. For me, it’s about what else can I accomplish? I don’t care about being all over the radio. I don’t need that. I’m cool, man. How involved are you with Angeles Records today? It’s cool. Angeles is good. It’s hard. You have Fontana over there not giving you enough money to promote your records. I don’t know what I’m going to do with Angeles Records. They don’t give you enough money to promote your records decently. I’m just going to take my records to different places. This record is coming out on Universal Latino and I got three people that want Asia’s record. It’s easy. When you have an independent label, you have to do everything yourself. I did everything. I built an infrastructure. I’m going to take a lot of my projects to different people and if I put something out on Angeles, I do, but either way, it don’t matter. What’s the next move for DJ Muggs?
I took about six weeks off because I got bored, dude. When I was doing Jack’s record, I was just creatively exhausted. I took some time off. I’m doing an album together with Planet Asia. We got about eight songs done. I went to Europe on tour. I’m working on the score for the movie The Night Watchman. It stars Forrest Whitaker and Keanu Reeves. It’s a $60 million movie. It’s that, the Asia record and this tour. I just bought a ranch in Montana. It has buffalo on it. Music is a part of our life. Music is maybe 2-5% of my world. What do you want to say to everybody?
Man, to the people that have been down with the Soul Assassins committee, shout out for the support all these years. One way or another, my crew has touched everybody in hip-hop. If it wasn’t us making music for them or Cartoon tattooing them with ink, we made a difference. We never bit off nobody. We don’t suck nobody’s fucking blood. We bring shit to the game and a lot of you motherfuckers need to do it. Put your chain away because it doesn’t make you cool. Shut the fuck you because you ain’t tough. Make your music. |
