JEN: What happened to the Funky Bunch after the You Gotta Believe album?

TERRY: After the You Gotta Believe album, I guess the guys wanted to go in their own direction. You know, like Marky was heavily into the uh..., he wanted to do the acting thing. He had a couple of opportunities to do a couple of roles and some different things. That was pretty much it. He said, "Hey man I don't want to do another record." So he went his way and we went our way. 

Scott got into the management and business aspect of the music business and had a named Harold who is now named Devin in LFO. Scott discovered him and nurtured him and taught him, you know, his way of singing and stuff. 

We've just been working on different projects. I've been doing other things with different groups. Producing stuff and just local stuff. Just pretty much after it was over, I just decided to take a break and become normal once again.

JEN: So you weren't normal when you were in the Funky Bunch? You were an alien?

TERRY: Yeah pretty much. Sometimes it felt like you were.

JEN: Really why?

TERRY: Nah..just because of the schedule and you know doing the same song, every single night, day in and day out.

JEN: All those crazy girls...

TERRY: Nah that part...that was the fun part about it, you know. Just to see the enjoyment that people got to see us flipping and flopping on stage and the screaming you know. That was the cool part. It was just the business part that was kind of tiring. 

JEN: What happened to Ashey Ace?

TERRY: Andy...he was an extra in Mark's latest movie, The Planet of the Apes movie. He played one of the apes. He still hangs out...he lives with Mark actually. 

JEN: When did you and Hector decide to get back together?

TERRY: Like he knew I was doing the music stuff. He lives like maybe an hour and a half away and so we just got together. He gave me a call, I called him up and let him listen to some stuff I was working on as far as music and he said, "Hey let's do it again." And I said, "Alright, hey cool." 

JEN: You got tired of being normal, huh?

TERRY: Yeah, you know. It's still the whole entertainment music thing in us, still coursing through our veins, so we figured hey let's get it done.

JEN: Who is the main rapper now?

TERRY: Um..both of us. We have a lot of different people in Boston singing on it. Matter of fact, Phaedra, you may recognize her, she [sang] with Joe, she sings on track #2. She does the chorus and some background. Another dude, Tashaun King, who's real famous in Boston, he hasn't gotten his big break yet, but he's singing on a lot of the stuff too. He was in the group, Homework, from way back when. He was Shaun Meddles then, but now he's Tashaun King. He's on a lot of different things. 

Me and Hector, we just got together and we're just in the studios. We write all the stuff and we pretty much just rap about what's on our minds, different things we've been through. We're not talking about money, or shooting people, or killing people, or anything like that. It's more geared towards the ladies, you know what I'm saying? It's sensual, massage rap. 

JEN: What's your favorite song on the album and why?

TERRY: I would have to say...I have 2 really. Well I have 3 favorite ones to be totally honest, and I'll give you reasons why. I like "Throw Em Up". It's a party song. It's pretty laidback. We had a lot of fun doing that one. "Crazy" was written probably a couple of years ago. I did the music like a couple of years ago. Actually Larry Thomas (he played guitar for Joe during the Stay the Same Tour) produced the music for "Crazy". That song right there was just about the different things that we went through after the group. 

"I Like That." That was just a fun tune to do.

JEN: Do you know what Hector's favorite songs are?

TERRY: Yeah. Same songs.

JEN: How would you describe the new album?

TERRY: It's fun. It's interesting really. For a lot of people that were around for the Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, it's a change. It's a whole lot more fun to deal with.

JEN: What have been some of your influences musically?

TERRY: I'm going to have to say..um...a lot of the influences. Donnie...you know just being in the studio watching him produce. 

One of my favorites as far as groups, as far as entertaining on stage and putting on a performance, I would have to say NSync, believe it or not. I'm just talking about...I mean for today and now and for what's happening now. I never listened to one of their records, but I was watching the music awards and they did that thing with the TV screens. That was hot! You can't deny that was hot!

JEN: The New Kids were still better....

TERRY: I agree because, you remember, I've been on tour with them forever. I toured with them for like, what 2 to 3 years? 

But they did something similar too. Remember they had the cartoon thing out in the Magic Summer Tour? Yeah that was cool. I'm just talking about television performances that I've seen on stage so far.

JEN: How did you and the other guys first become a part of the Funky Bunch?

TERRY: Mary Alford put us together. First it was Mark, then Mary contacted me and asked me if I wanted to be in a group.

JEN: How did Mary Alford know you?

TERRY: Her and my uncle used to own a sneaker store together. I used to be in there performing. Performing you know in front of the mirror. Also I was DJing on a college radio station for a little while. That's how I got in the group. 

Hector wasn't in the group at first. It was Andy, Scott, and this girl named Letisha. Then she left to do her own thing before the record came out, before "Good Vibrations" came out. Then Hector, Scott and Andy used to dance in another group. They were called "The Best Kept Secret." That's how we all came together.

JEN: So if it wasn't for that sneaker store, huh?

TERRY: Well actually you never know because that's how I met Donnie and all the New Kids when they were still Nynuk. They used to come into the sneaker store. 

JEN: How would you compare the new album to what you did with Mark? 

TERRY: Real.

JEN: Is it similar musically, do you think?

TERRY: No, not really. I don't think so. It's totally different I would have to say.

JEN: Why is it only you and Hector?

TERRY: Because we were the only ones who really wanted to do it again. Like Scott, I talk to Scott almost everyday and he's willing to do a song, but as far as putting in the long hours in the studio and this, that and the other thing, he's still working on his management company. Andy...same thing with Andy. He can't be in two places at once and get it done right. You know?

JEN: Are y'all planning on touring with this album?

TERRY: Yeah. It depends on how the record does, and who wants to book us some shows. Because right now it's all independent, but we're looking to get picked up.

JEN: Have Donnie and Mark heard the album?

TERRY: Yeah.

JEN: What do they think?

TERRY: They loved it. I had sent two copies to Andy to give one to Mark. I haven't heard back from Mark yet because of his schedule, but Donnie called me up when he got back from London and said "Hey I got the package. I'm going to listen to it." He listened to it, he called me back and said, "Yo I love it man." He said if he could help out, he said he was going to do it. But now he's into the movie aspect and not so much the music anymore. He's running with a different crowd now, so....
