| Obama Repeats Hip-Hop Talking Points, World Stops
Everytime a reporter lures Obama into talking about hip-hop he seizes the opportunity to rehash these 4 talking points:
1. I’m older than hip-hop
2. Jay-Z and Kanye are my favorites (Luda was stricken from this list after his politically incorrect “Politics As Usual”)
3. I respect the hustle of hip-hop entrepreneurs
4. Rappers need to stop saying “bitches” and “hoes”
Well, not in those words. But you get the point. Anyway, Obama shouting out hip-hop is obviously a big deal. It’s such a big deal that news sites can’t get enough of it. So, in the spirit of celebrating Obama’s historic endorsement of some hip-hop, here’s the latest dialogue that took place between MTV’s resident Rastafarian Sway Calloway and Barack Obama. On hip-hop entrepreneurship: “I’m a little older than hip-hop culture,” he said. “I was there at the beginning, but I was already getting older. … What I’ve appreciated, watching this hip-hop generation, is to see how entrepreneurial they’ve been. In the past, musicians oftentimes were commodities. They were just shuffled around. Obviously, they did well, but they didn’t have the vision to say, ‘I’m going to build a business. I’m going to build my own studio. I’m going to create my own production operations.’ I think they’re a lot more sophisticated than in the past, and that is a wonderful thing.” On social responsibility: “What I’m starting to see is them stretching out more and thinking about social responsibility and how they can impact the culture in a positive way,” he said. “And I hope that continues.” On the G.O.A.T. debate: “Oh no, I’m not going to get caught up in all that,” he laughed.
*Yawn* Wake me up when he refers to T.I. as the Rubber Band Man. |
