Про Уэбба. От Уэбба.

World Cup Final referee Howard Webb last night admitted the biggest day of his professional life will always be soured.

The 39-year-old Rotherham whistler became the first man ever to take charge of the Champions League Final and World Cup climax in the same season.

But after issuing a Final record 14 yellow cards and sending off Holland defender John Heitinga in the Soccer City showpiece on July 11, Webb came under sustained attack from the Dutch media, players and coach Bert Van Marwijk.

It left Webb comparing himself to a bride whose most important day is ruined by a torrential downpour.

“I felt a bit like a bride who’d seen three gorgeous sunny Saturdays and then, on her wedding day, she comes out of church and it’s raining,” he said.

“It was probably the most difficult game I’ve ever had – and I’ve had some hard ones.

“The fact it was the World Cup Final, which has it’s own incredible level of scrutiny, just added to the difficulty we faced.”

Webb conceded the attitude of both the Dutch and Spanish players, and the stick he has endured, will always tarnish his memories of what should have been his greatest achievement.

He added: “I knew the pressure and tension the players were under too, neither country having won a World Cup, and I sensed this during the game and what it meant to them.

“Having watched it back, there’s not a lot I would change. I’m satisfied that under difficult circumstances we did a pretty efficient job.

“Not perfect – no one over two hours on that field was perfect – but we did as well as could be expected.”

The Spanish press also castigated Webb and his colleagues Darren Cann and Mike Mullarkey.

All three were booed by Dutch fans when they went to collect their medals, while FIFA President Sepp Blatter only offered lukewarm support. Webb, a police sergeant on an extended five-year leave of absence from the South Yorkshire Force, added: “For us, it was challenging in so many ways.

“Those 14 yellow cards, plus the red, is the most I’ve ever given in my life.

“As a referee, you want to go unnoticed, that things go smoothly. So for me there was an element of disappointment that I’d had so much involvement.

“But I felt I had to have that level of input just to maintain control of the game and keep the focus on football as much as possible.

“The element of displeasure expressed by the losing team afterwards, which was somewhat unpleasant, left a feeling of disappointment .

“As a trio, we weren’t saying it had gone badly, just not as we had hoped.

“There was booing as well and so the negative reaction to the match officials made us feel a little bit down.

“We were a bit fed up then Darren Cann’s mobile started receiving texts. After a few minutes he said, ‘Look at these’ and the support just came flooding in.

“Then we began to get messages from all over the world – great support. It was a massive boost and a relief.

“Not because we were seeking plaudits but people saying we did a good job in difficult circumstances was very comforting.

“You can’t please everyone all the time but you hope people accept you did a reasonable job, the best you can.

“I’ve had that support, quite wonderfully – people being behind me, sympathising and empathising.”

О том, что такое хасол (а не то, о чем пишет репру) рассказывает Янка Лапутина (она мне ссылку сама дала, мы с ней встречались по молодости, а щас дружим):
