Notorious hip-hop group N.W.A's story to be told
May 12, 2011
Ice Cube says rumours of a movie about the rise and fall of legendary rap group N.W.A. are true.
Appearing on the TV chat show Lopez Tonight, the hip hop superstar, sitcom actor and movie director confirmed whispers that plans are afoot for a biopic about the pioneer West Coast gangsta rappers.
"We're working on a N.W.A movie about the whole situation," Cube told Lopez. "It was the world's most dangerous group."
Cube told the host he thinks the story of how the Los Angeles quintet became one of the most influential groups in music history is an important one.
"I think N.W.A. cha
nged a lot in pop culture and people should see how we started, how the neighborhood we came from created N.W.A. and then N.W.A. changed the neighborhoods we come from. It's definitely a story that needs to be told."
Cube formed N.W.A. with Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, MC Ren and DJ Yella in 1986 but left the group after one album, the controversial classic Straight Outta Compton.
